Kickoff Workshop for Annual ?Write Your Memoir? Contest?Someone Who Made A Difference In My Life?
San Diego, CA January 31 2004–Kicking off the second annual ?Write Your Memoir Day? on April 11, local author Sherry Tucker is presenting a ?How To Write Your Memoir? workshop at My Cup of Tea Unique Gifts (282-A Third Avenue, Chula Vista) on February 14, 2004, 10 a.m. to noon. Guests will also enjoy a soothing ?cuppa tea? and decadent chocolate desserts ($10/person). Since space is limited RSVP is required.
This year?s theme is ?someone who made a difference in my life,? encouraging people to think about someone important in their life who may not even be aware of the impact she/he has made. The goal is to receive at least one story from every state in America.
Stories are judged solely on content and should be limited to 1,000 words. Entry forms and stories should be emailed to sherry@yourmemories.net, or typed and faxed to 858-271-5226, or mailed to: Premier Administrative Services, 9524 Kearny Villa Road, Ste. 105H, San Diego, CA 92126 by March 31, 2004.
Prizes include a digital camera (donated by Doug Williamson, Allstate Insurance Company), ?Get The Edge? audio program (donated by the Anthony Robbins Foundation), a scrapbook album and supplies (donated by Fe Haynes Creative Memories Consultant) a one-year subscription to Good Old Days magazine (donated by Good Old Days magazine), and a one-year subscription to Reunions magazine (donated by Reunions magazine). Each winner will also receive an autographed copy of Ms. Tucker?s book, A Lifetime of Cherished Memories: How To Preserve Your Family History.
The annual ?Write Your Memoir Day? was developed in recognition of the importance life stories have in forging bonds between past and present generations, documenting historical and cultural events, and recording necessary medical records. Writing also serves as a cathartic healing process and can be an important step in self-validation.
Memoirs celebrate our lives and Ms. Tucker hopes that everyone will set aside this special day to begin, continue, or finish writing their life stories and win a fun prize as well.
